Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about MapMyStays, mass import, flight tracking, and the planning tool import.

How does mass import work?

You can either add entries manually or upload a CSV file. The following formats are supported:

  • Your own MapMyStays format
  • Flighty export (flight tracker)
  • Knapp Planning Tool export

After loading, all entries appear in the list where you can still edit them before saving.

Why are some countries not recognized?

For Flighty imports, the system uses the arrival airport (To) to determine the country. If the airport code is missing from the lookup table or misspelled, the field stays empty or gets highlighted red.

Solution: Just select the correct country manually from the dropdown — it will be saved correctly.

What do the red/yellow highlights mean?

Red (dup-db): This stay overlaps with an existing entry already in your database.

Yellow (dup-csv): This stay overlaps with another entry from the same CSV file you just uploaded.

You can still save — duplicates will be skipped automatically, or you can edit/delete them manually first.

Does the planning tool import work without my Knapp ID?

Yes — it will match entries based on your first and last name from your profile.

If your name is written differently in the tool, just enter the last 4 digits of your Knapp ID in the field — then it filters exactly for you.

Can multiple entries for the same country/project be merged?

Yes — consecutive entries in the same country and same project are automatically merged into one stay.

Example: 01.03.–21.03. Project X + 21.03.–30.03. Project X → becomes 01.03.–30.03.

What happens with overlapping stays?

If a new stay overlaps with an existing one in your database, it gets marked (dup-db).

When saving, overlapping entries are skipped to avoid duplicates. You can still edit or delete them manually before submitting.

How to export from Planning Tool?

Login to Planning Tool. Search for yourself using the "?". Select the wished start and end date. Press "Export the current View" in upper right corner.

Open the downloaded excel and save it as CSV -> This file can now be imported.
